Programs

PEAK welcomes people of all ages and abilities. Learn to row on flat Standley in a sculling boat or oarboard with the help of a certified coach. If indoor exercise and strength-building is more your style, check out our erg programs.

Membership

PEAK members can use all club equipment, including club singles, doubles, oars, slings and pfds. Members often arrange to row together for company. Standley Lake is open from May 1 to Sept 30.

Sculling Refresher

This one-hour refresher in a beach-launched quad is available to those with prior rowing experience only. A skilled bow and stroke will review the basics. Most will be certified to row a double and a quad at the conclusion of the hour.

Oarboard Lesson

Learn to row on a super-stable oarboard with help from a PEAK US Rowing-certified coach. An oarboard may be just your speed, perfect for exploring Standley’s coves, or you may decide to move on to a faster skinny scull. Private lessons are held most Wednesdays from 7 to 9 am at Standley. Cost is $150. You must sign up more than 7 days in advance. Read more in the Westminster Activity Guide.

Adaptive Workshop

Through a partnership between PEAK and Rocky Mountain Rowing Club, disabled athletes can learn to row or sharpen their on-the-water skills in these specialized two-hour workshops offered at Cherry Creek Reservoir. Sat. & Sun., July 12 & 13. Sign up for one or both days. Veterans, please reach out to programs@peakrowing.org for a discount code before registering.

Indoor Rowing Lessons

PEAK offers virtual erg classes under the guidance of a US Rowing-certified coach. Online classes are open to all for $60 (Nov-Mar) and free for 2025 members and veterans.

Mondays, 7-8 am with DawnMarie

Meet Our Coaches

Natalie Ormond

A USRowing level 2 certified coach, Natalie has been obsessed with rowing since 2013. She is an avid competitor and the founding force behind PEAK Rowing.

DawnMarie Schwappach

A USRowing coach and referee, DawnMarie has served the rowing community for 20+ years. She has adapted her coaching to effectively reach juniors, seniors, veterans and adaptive athletes as well as those with Asperger’s, post concussive/traumatic brain injury and learning disabilities. One of the nation’s first indoor rowing instructors, she developed a local program in 1996 which is still going strong today.

Erika Nelson-Wong

Erika is a USRowing level 1 certified coach who has competed in local and regional regattas in both sculling and sweep events. Erika made the switch from competitive cycling to rowing in 2001.

Deb Kornblut

Peter Gozar

A USRowing level 2, adaptive & para certified coach, Pete has been sharing his love of rowing and sculling since the early 1990s. Originally from Cleveland, he was on the Kent State University Rowing Club team, and then a coach with Western Reserve Rowing Association and Rocky Mountain Rowing Club. Pete has competed in local, national and international regattas and is a founding force behind Rocky Mountain Rowing Club’s annual 5280 regatta.
